SET Gazette

SET is proud to present the first instalment of the SET Gazette newsletter.  This quarterly publication is designed to offer job search tips, information about current labour market trends, and to notify of upcoming events such as Hiring Fairs.  The current issue features an article about the film industry in Nanaimo, information on local employment services and a variety of recommended books & websites that may be helpful in a job search.

BC Job SearchGuide (2008 Ed.)
by Christian Saint Cyr

This exciting new resource has been assembled by Christian Saint Cyr, a leading expert in BC Labour Market trends.  Inside, this book offers up-to-date information specific to our local labour market.  Topics include; The Changing Face of Job Search in BC, Choosing a Career, Education & Training in BC, The 10 Step Job Search, BC Companies & Industry Associations, etc.  The author introduces and explains how some current labour market trends are likely to influence our provincial economy (e.g. the 2010 Olympics).  This resource is an excellent start for anyone interested in learning more about the labour market and the many facets of its effects on job search.  

A copy of the BC Job Search Guide is available in the Reference section of the Resource Room Library.

Youth Casual Labour

Service Canada Centre for Youth
Information Session

Service Canada representatives will be at the SET office on Friday, August 1, 2008, 10am - 12noon
to host a drop-in session. The session will enable participants to ask questions and register for the casual labour program. If you are aged 15-30 years and are interested in learning about this program, please drop inanytime between 10am and 12pm

SET HIRING FAIR

September will be a busy month for Hiring Fairs. Other community agencies will also be hosting Hiring Fairs in the month of September. Information will be posted once dates have been confirmed. Please check out 'What's New' in August and September for details.

Use the next two months to perfect your resume and uncover the type of work you really want. As always, SET offers a wide variety of workshops to help you succeed in doing just that. Plese check our workshop schedule for dates.
