SET provides FREE employment services for unemployed residents of the Nanaimo area who need access to technology and information to carry out their job search.

Service in Nanaimo
The SET Employment Resource Centre is located as 101-155 Skinner St. Nanaimo, BC and we are open Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

In our Resource Room you will find a job board with local job postings, computers with Internet access for work search. People who have some experience using word processing programs can prepare a resume or cover letter. For those who are new to this, we also offer beginner workshops in Word processing and the Internet, as well as other career development workshops. Check out our Workshop schedule for a complete listing.

Other services available in our Resource Room

• Visually impaired job seekers can use a computer with Zoom Text
• Some of our computers have Typing Mast Pro and Excel
• Our office and one designated computer is wheelchair accessible
• We also offer service for job seekers who prefer service in French

For individual support we offer one-on-one employment counselling, job coaching, referrals to other community services and on-going follow up.

Our Employment Consultants will provide individual support in:

• Identifying your strengths and barriers
• Determining the support you need
• Developing a plan to help you reach your employment goals
• Providing one-on-one employment counselling which may include:
  - Resume and cover letter assistance - Career assessment
  - Job search advising - Career Decision assistance
  
• Providing referrals to other community services
• Offering on-going follow up and support

Job Search Program

SET Your Target, a fast-tracked job search program, assists job-ready individuals to quickly and successfully prepare for employment by developing an effective resume and cover letter, interview practice, networking skills and a self-marketing plan. Individuals with various backgrounds and occupations meet for two weeks in a group setting and benefit from the coaching of experienced facilitators as they gain the skills and strategies needed to navigate today's competitive labour market.

SET Job Coach
The SET Job Coaching service provides transitional support to those motivated job seekers facing challenges with employment.

What our Job Coach can do for you:

• Provide direct referral of individuals to employment opportunities within the workplace
• Participate in the interview process and meetings between the employer and the potential employee
• Support the new employee with work place orientation to assist the employee in achieving a positive work experience and long-term employment
• Provide on-going support as the new employee adapts to the workplace
