Knock 'em Dead Cover Letters by Martin Yate

I have personally used Knock ‘em Dead Cover Letters since 2000. Whenever I have been out of work this is the book that I pick up to help me write my cover letters.  Therefore, it is the first book that I recommend when anyone needs assistance in creating a professional cover letter.

First published in 1992 and now in its 8th edition, this cover letter book only keeps getting better.  Not only does it have some great examples of cover letters, but it also includes examples of follow-up letters, acceptance letters and letters of resignation.  The letters are written by real job hunters and by professional resume and cover letter writers.

What I also like about this book is that with each edition, the cover letter examples are updated.  There is a section on internet job search and many examples of cover letters used to respond to online job postings.

Throughout the book there are examples of “Power Phrases”.  These are great phrases that will assist you in developing your own unique and very professional cover letters.

Some other great  cover letter examples in this book are:

  • 1. “Cold” email or cover letter to a potential employer (when there is no advertised job opening)
  • 2. Broadcast letters  (when you don’t have a relevant resume and need to apply to a position asap)
  • 3. Networking letters (using your contacts to connect with others)
  • 4. “Resurrection” letters (to reconnect with potential employers and let them know you are still available)
  • 5. Follow-up after telephone and personal contact
  • 6. Acceptance and negotiation letters
  • 7. Resignation letters

If you are looking for a great, easy to read book on cover letters with plenty of examples, Knock ‘em Dead Cover Letters provides it all.
